Limericks for Little Ones

Shel Silverstein is a hero to me. In a way, he reminds me of Jerry Garcia or Neil Young - he is powerful and emotional without gushing. He can be inspirational and irreverent with one squiggle. His stories are experiential in the tales they tell, in the lyrical lilt and the lift of the words. They are supported with wonderfully expressive black and white illustrations. I partnered with my friend Alan Close, who did the illustrations, by way of trying to replicate some of the majesty and mischief Shel gave the world.
